My stress level is completely freaking maxed out, man. I won’t address the microscopic elephant in the room directly (you know who you are, you relentless little packet of replicating RNA… damn you!) but I literally can’t get any more upset no matter what else goes catastrophically wrong in my life. It’s an emotional state of eerie stressed serenity. Yeah. It’s hard to describe. I’ll be okay… probably.
Anyway, I heard this really cool internet togetherness event was happening called Blapril, where you are basically challenged to do a post a day in April 2020 and share in on a wonderful community objective. Now, normally things on this scale require lots of planning and whatnot, but nah. I just jumped in blindly and am gonna bumble my way through this! It’s kinda like how I handle everything in my life these days. And since I’m incapable of being any more stressed than I already am, it’s the perfect project!
So let’s pull some content out of my head while I slowly descend into madness over here, shall we? Hm. Well, I really love taking screenshots in video games. I bought a capture card just to give my classic consoles that functionality and have too many GBs of screenshots saved from various games. Might as well share some!
Today, the 1st of April 2020 (not in the mood for pranks unless you want to make me rich by toilet papering my residence), I chose this gem of a scene that made me giggle in Fallout 4. It’s actually one of the very first screenshots I took on my PS4!
I’ve always been a sucker for that post-apocalyptic theme in stories. While I do admit that theme hits uncomfortably close to reality these days, there’s one very important coping message perfectly conveyed in this screenshot: there’s strength in sarcasm!
The fictional nuclear war that eradicated the world in Fallout 4 is a far, far more devastating event than the current Coronavirus outbreak in reality I’m honestly sick and terrified of hearing about. The Commonwealth is an utterly obliterated land where the Radroaches roam and the Super Mutants strike all day. Everything is poison and everything want to kill you while you try to find your son. It ain’t easy being the Sole Survivor, or anyone in this game, really.
Despite all that devastation, some Raiders (or some other irradiated creature) went out of their way to make it look like one of those silly lawn ornament flamingos was drinking out of a urinal. Ha! It’s a cheap laugh in a depressing world.
And that’s what this flamingo drinking out of a urinal represents to me. Hope in humor. There’s nothing a good joke can’t enlighten, even at the height of an apocalypse.
