Seriously Geeky Sundays: Kings and Queens

Hail to the king and/or queen, baby!

In case you were unaware, the awesome Heather over at Just Geeking By started a series of blogging prompts called Seriously Geeky Sundays. This is my response to part 3 of her multi-week event. Definitely check out Heather’s cool prompts and take part in the fun if you want! I’m absolutely loving her questions so far.

So… without anymore intro babbling from me, here are my answers to Just Geeking By’s royally awesome questions for this week. Thank you, Heather!

Who is your favourite female royal character?

Lucina from the video game Fire Emblem Awakening. She’s a total badass warrior princess and descendant of the Hero-King Marth. How cool does that sound, eh? I absolutely loved Lucina’s character development in the game. She’s strong enough to endure the burden of carrying the fate of a world on her shoulders, yet the few moments where her emotions leak out are absolutely touching.

Since I shipped my Robin avatar with Chrom (her royal father), I’m technically Lucina’s mom. How can I not call my own daughter my favourite female royal character? I’m so freaking proud!

Best daughter ever.

Who is your favourite male royal character?

King Alistair from the Dragon Age video game series. Sadly, the adorable dorky knight man didn’t make it past Dragon Age: Origins in my DA universe (long spoiler-filled story), but far smarter players than I can get him to become the King of Ferelden. He definitely doesn’t really want to be king, but he puts his fears aside for the good of the realm.

Alistair is a super special character to me, to say the least. He’s the first fictional character I can say I legit had a demiromantic crush on. Trying to explain to an awesome best friend at the time how I felt about him led me to discover what the asexual orientation is. A long painful road later, I finally understand what romantic love feels like to me. Thanks for setting me off on that extremely difficult journey of self-discovery, Alistair! ❤

Who is your favourite royal couple?

Other than Chrom and my Robin avatar from Fire Emblem Awakening (obviously), Link and Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda video game series. There are no cheesy kissing scenes between these two, they’d die to protect each other, and they are drawn together across multiple reincarnated lifetimes. I mean, c’mon… how special is that?

I… dislike Breath of the Wild, a lot, but this screenshot makes me want to keep trying to like it enough to see what this beautiful scene is all about.

What is your favourite storyline involving a royal character?

The Indranan War novel series written by K.B. Wagers. I LOVE this story so freaking much. It follows Hailimi Bristol, a former fugitive gunrunner who’s forced to go back to her homeworld and become its royal ruler. It’s got a lot of Star Wars/Mass Effect vibes, a sassy badass female protagonist, tons of well-written action scenes, and loads of respectful LGBTQ representation. It’s on my To Do list to give the series another read through so I can write dedicated articles about the overall awesomeness.

If you could live in any fictional royal residence, which one would it be?

I would say Princess Peach’s Castle from Super Mario 64. The grounds are so peaceful and inside is filled with portraits that lead to a multitude of whimsical worlds. To get the castle, I’d probably have to team up with Bowser to take it by force, though. That’s fine. He can have the girl, I’ll take the castle. Bwahahaha!!

Wow… Nintendo 64 era video games really show their age, eh?

The main character of the last fandom you experienced just became King/Queen of their universe; how do they react?

The last fandom I experienced would be Wentworth, the Australian women’s prison drama TV series. The main character of that is Bea Smith, a tragic character who got turned into a ruthless monster due to fate being a dick to her. I’d say she’d make a fabulous queen of her world. She’d rule with an iron fist, but would truly care about the well-being of her loyal subjects.

Queen Bea FTW!

    1. Nothing to do with current affairs I’m afraid; this week’s theme was inspired by the wedding of American actress Grace Kelly to the Prince of Monaco in 1956. All the Seriously Geeky Sunday themes are inspired by events and holidays.
