And that’s a game… sorta! The SigCorp Minisodes 1 & 2 DLC is up for discussion next in this great Play-Along event hosted by Time to Loot, but the main game has reached the emotional epic conclusion I heard so much hype about.
Was it sad? Did I cry? I’m not admitting anything… sniffs.
So let’s jump right into this! Thank you to the awesome Naithin for putting this event together.
Johnny… Joey… Twins. It seems after the accident Johnny lost his identity to his mother, and became a replacement-Joey. Does it change how you feel about Johnny as compared to your Act 1 impressions?
Whoa!! Did NOT AT ALL see that plot twist coming. I figured something really bad happened to Johnny that he needed to forget, but I completely missed all the clues about Joey leading up to the really freaking sad revelation. Poor Joey…
My opinion of Johnny remains unchanged. I still see him as a guy with his heart in the right place even if he makes a few mistakes showing his love. Now that I know he has some serious loss trauma hidden deep inside his memory banks, it explains why he was so overprotective of River later in life.
Eva and Neil have a verbal sparring match on their differing views of contract vs. what they now know (or think they know) about what would make Johnny happier. Outcome of Eva’s actions notwithstanding; do you sympathise with one view over the other here?
That was a tough moral dilemma! I’m going to have to side with Eva’s opinion, however. Their dying clients trust them to fulfill the contract terms that were set out during better days. They must see Johnny’s last wish through to the end regardless of what other paths they feel would make Johnny “happier”.
Enforcing their definition of what’s best for Johnny is very wrong, in my opinion. He wanted to go to the moon so they have to make that happen for him. Neil has such a selfish perspective on this. Gr! He may not even realize it himself, but he’s only trying to save himself from guilt pains, not really caring about what’s best for Johnny at all.
Throughout that same exchange, Eva asks Neil to trust her. He clearly didn’t. Did you?
Well, since I agreed with Eva’s side of the argument, yup, I trusted her completely. I also had a feeling she worked out a way to keep River in Johnny’s story and still send him to the moon. Eva is such a brilliant badass!
“He can always find another ‘River’… But he’ll only have one brother.” Again, pretending for the moment you don’t know the outcome of Eva’s actions and what she (suspected) would happen… Do you agree? What about in this context of overwritten memories as opposed to life as it was?
This is a tough one. As an only child I’d give absolutely anything to have a close sibling connection with another human. Therefore, I’d wholeheartedly agree that Johnny only has one brother. BUT finding a soulmate to share your life with like Johnny found with River is also a one of a kind connection to another human (I don’t have one of those other half people in my life either). I hate the sentiment that he can always “find another River” because he actually can’t.
So… I guess I both agree and disagree with this statement. My brain hurts.
Anything you wish I’d asked you about that I haven’t, for this act or any of the others? Answer that question for this one.
Ha! Nice final question there, Naithin 😆
Um, I don’t really have anything else to question myself about. I am really happy Johnny got a beautifully rewritten set of memories before he died. He got his bro back, he got to keep his other half, and he went to the moon. That’s about as happily ever after as you can get without adding immortality.
Yeah… that wasn’t what really happened in Johnny’s life, but hey, our realities are merely illusions formed by our memories and sensory inputs when you think about it. Our brains make more assumptions about the world around us than we realize…
