July 2020 – Asundered!

Yes, I am aware asundered isn’t a word, but I don’t care! My website, my word rules. Ha! Anyway, welcome to my monthly wrap-up article! Let’s see what went down in my online life during these past 28-31 days…

I’ll be honest and say I waited until the last minute to write my end of the month article, I’m really freaking tired, and I can’t for the life of me think of a good intro so… let’s get on with it!

Also, HOW IS JULY OVER ALREADY??? Ahem.

Crazed Corona Chatter 3: Gym Guilt

It’s good to vent! That’s one of the main reasons why I write stuff, actually. Like most of the world, I’ve been driven completely crazy by the COVID-19 crisis. All other humans in the physical world are potential virus vectors to be avoided. It’s a freaking terrifying time as we watch death counts soar and hunker down helplessly as all our freedoms are taken away for the greater good of humanity.

And so, this “Crazed Corona Chatter” series of articles will be my way to just unload about it when I feel I need to. Sadly, I don’t think this depressing chaos will go away anytime soon.

Feel free to vent in the comments section too. I’m listening and here for ya! We got this.

I don’t want to jinx anything but things are kinda… safely getting back to normal over here?! Wow. *gasps*

It’s true! I am very grateful to be living in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. At the time of this article we have 1 active case of COVID-19 in our province (1,067 confirmed cases, 63 deaths, and 1,003 people recovered) and we’re also on a 11-day streak of no new cases despite increased testing.

I can offer nothing but praise for how well my local government has handled this crisis given the circumstances. Especially when I read about how…. um, not well other governments have handled this.

Seriously Geeky Sundays: Conventions

In an alternate reality where the coronavirus doesn’t exist and humans might possibly be spider-people, the annual San Diego Comic-Con would be happening this weekend. But alas, we’re all stuck on this virus-ridden homosapien-controlled version of Earth.

I’ve never attended a convention before, and to be perfectly honest, it’s not something I’ve been too keen on experiencing firsthand (I’ve been social distancing since way before it was cool). I did have plans for a long road trip with my best friend to attend my first one in August, but obviously that got cancelled for reasons.

Meh. I got a full refund and now I don’t have to deal with the annoying strangers that come attached to conventions, so all good!

Anyway, welcome back to another installment of me answering questions for Just Geeking By‘s series of blogging prompts called Seriously Geeky Sundays. This week is all about convention experiences (of which I have none so this should be interesting). Definitely check out Heather’s creative prompts and take part in the fun if you want! I’m absolutely loving her questions so far.

So… without anymore intro babbling from me, here are my answers to Just Geeking By’s conventional questions for this week. Thank you, Heather!

The Legends of Twitch

If you would’ve told me last year that I’d be spending most of my waking hours in 2020 watching other people play video games on the internet, I honestly would’ve called you crazy.

“Why in the hell would I want to watch other gamers game when I can spend that time playing video games for myself?”

Me of Yesteryear

Yep. A lot of my old mindsets have changed and grown with time!

This year I discovered the streaming gameplay community isn’t just a bunch of boring overrated millionaires pwning n00bs in the latest popular multiplayer game to the tune of chats moving a million miles per hour (so much yawn). Streaming can become something super special and awesome when it’s done for a greater purpose and within a tightknit community of friends.

Dynamax Dat Phat Beat! (Pokémon Sword)

Holy crap!! Pokémon sure has come a long way since I peaced out on the series after the Gold/Silver era. I’m in shock and awe over here…

Don’t get me wrong! It’s not like I hated the games after Gold/Silver or anything. Young me just lost interest in the series after that generation for whatever reason.

“Gotta catch ’em all!” was starting to feel way too overwhelming, I guess. I mean, I had a hard enough time keeping tabs on 251… now there’s, what? 800+ types of the lil’ pocket monsters crawling around?? That’s a crazy number that would take forever to acquire. Wow.

Seriously Geeky Sundays: Romance is in the air

Ugh. International Kissing Day… bah humbug! You crazy kids get offa my lawn with your kissing each other and whatnot.

Kidding! Back before I figured out my sexual orientation, I hated seeing anything to do with romance, to be honest. I’ve never truly desired kissing or sex, and I felt so alone for feeling that way. Thankfully, I got all my love shizz figured out these days!

Did you know? Sexual and romantic attraction are two different things in our brains! They usually align together for most humans, but not always. I’m have no desire for kissing or sex with any gender (asexual), but I do experience the other romantic feelings for rare people of any gender I bond with on a deep emotional level (demiromantic).

I have realized I do want a life partner, but haven’t had very much luck in that love area. The two people I’ve developed my true demiromantic feelings for didn’t return that love, and both chose other people to have a romantic relationship with over me (ow, my poor fragile self-worth). The people who have been attracted to me… well, sadly I felt nothing for them.

Romance is not something to be jealous of, silly brain. I’ve never had a romantic partner and there’s absolutely no rush or need to have one. I’d much rather be alone forever than trapped with someone I don’t truly love and can’t be myself around. Stop being so pushy on single people, society.

Enough about my lack of love life! The awesome Heather over at Just Geeking By started a series of blogging prompts called Seriously Geeky Sundays. This week is all about that romance thing. Definitely check out Heather’s creative prompts and take part in the fun if you want! I’m absolutely loving her questions so far.

So… without anymore intro babbling from me, here are my answers to Just Geeking By’s lovey questions for this week. Thank you, Heather!

IRL Travels: Liberty and Prosperity, and NYC

What a difference a year can make… just… wow.

Exactly one year ago today, I had no idea what coronaviruses were and excitedly embarked on an aircraft alone to venture off on my first ever international trip. I chose to take my first steps off of Canadian soil in the good ol’ USA. More specifically, the great State of New Jersey (which gets far too much hate, in my opinion) and a whirlwind walking tour of New York City.

The major goal of the trip was to meet some cool online buddies in reality for the first time. I was also in the middle of a panicked health scare and there was no time like the present to see more things. That trip was honestly the best few days of my entire life, and I’ll treasure the memories I made there for the rest of my life. ❤

I even got a badass souvenir tattoo while I was there: A pink dragon with New Jersey’s state motto “Liberty and Prosperity” under it. I can’t really convey into words the special meaning behind it. I just know I’ll never stop smiling whenever I look at it.

I have a new appreciation for how hard it is to take a decent photo of my own arm.

I loved meeting the good people of the USA. I felt so welcomed in New Jersey. It breaks my heart when I think of the current cataclysmic situations unfolding there now. A year ago might as well have been another lifetime on a different planet. I’m grateful I got to see some of the USA at its best, and I know my beloved American friends will get through this. Sending all my love across the border, eh!

To honor the anniversary of that awesome trip, here’s a travel log style article detailing my wonderful days spent there.

Ex-BFFs: A Coping Guide From Painful XP

Many of us are blessed to have best friends in our lives. You know those cool people that we just click with and accumulate wonderful experiences alongside? Having a supportive BFF at your back is seriously the best thing ever.

What is the definition of a BFF, anyway? To me, this is someone you strongly relate to, can talk about absolutely anything with, would punch anyone for, and someone you will always love unconditionally.

They’re there for you in your darkest moments, and you’re there for them in theirs. Merely talking to them makes you smile and gives you comfort. They become as important to us as family members. Soul friends, as one of my best friends likes to put it.

Never in a million years could you ever imagine such a strong emotional bond being broken. Just like in all the cheesy stories, the power of true friendship can overcome anything, right??

Wrong!!

Sadly, harsh reality begs to differ. We are all human beings, and all human beings create drama. Longstanding close connections you took for granted can be nuked beyond repair in the blink of an eye. It’s those feelz, man.

Human emotions are the complex and messy elements in any relationship equation. When incompatible mental health issues meet, it can be comparable to the reactions that occur when fire touches ice or lightning strikes water.

None of these elements are inherently good or bad; they just clash.
