Ahem. I mean…

Thank you to the great blog Battle Stance for passing the prompt torch to me yesterday! Ze question I’m supposed to ask today is:

Tell us about some of your hobbies outside of the realm of your specific niche.

This was a surprisingly tough question for me to answer! My blog’s primary niche is whatever I want to talk about, so all of my hobbies do get some word time on Ace Asunder.

Video games, blogging itself, and other media consumption get the lion’s share of attention around here so I’ll discuss one I’m starting to appreciate more and more during these dark days: working out!

I’ve had a pretty strict exercise routine for a while now. I walk 35KM a week and take a challenging HIIT class 4 times a week at my gym (which has safely reopened for the time being).

I exercise more for my mental health than my physical health, if that makes sense. I have emotion regulation issues, to say the least, and nothing gets rid of my chaotic emotions like sweating them out does.

The physical stress tires out my anxiety, and getting stronger crushes those worthless feelings my depression always throws my way. I love it! The best zen mood ever is always triggered after every workout session.

Exercising makes me incredibly happy and I look forward to doing it, therefore it has become one of the most important hobbies in my life right now. It’s even more important to me than video games are, and trust me, that says a lot!

  1. Seems you already know it, but did you know that their has been research and scientific papers written on the link between physical exercise and the positive benefits on mental health? It’s not a coincidence that exercise makes you feel better – there’s a part of your brain that feels better and is able to deal with those negative emotions if you regularly exercise. I’ve always found that interesting, though am a bit too much of a couch potato to capitalize on it.
