IRL Travels: Liberty and Prosperity, and NYC

What a difference a year can make… just… wow.

Exactly one year ago today, I had no idea what coronaviruses were and excitedly embarked on an aircraft alone to venture off on my first ever international trip. I chose to take my first steps off of Canadian soil in the good ol’ USA. More specifically, the great State of New Jersey (which gets far too much hate, in my opinion) and a whirlwind walking tour of New York City.

The major goal of the trip was to meet some cool online buddies in reality for the first time. I was also in the middle of a panicked health scare and there was no time like the present to see more things. That trip was honestly the best few days of my entire life, and I’ll treasure the memories I made there for the rest of my life. ❤

I even got a badass souvenir tattoo while I was there: A pink dragon with New Jersey’s state motto “Liberty and Prosperity” under it. I can’t really convey into words the special meaning behind it. I just know I’ll never stop smiling whenever I look at it.

I have a new appreciation for how hard it is to take a decent photo of my own arm.

I loved meeting the good people of the USA. I felt so welcomed in New Jersey. It breaks my heart when I think of the current cataclysmic situations unfolding there now. A year ago might as well have been another lifetime on a different planet. I’m grateful I got to see some of the USA at its best, and I know my beloved American friends will get through this. Sending all my love across the border, eh!

To honor the anniversary of that awesome trip, here’s a travel log style article detailing my wonderful days spent there.

Ex-BFFs: A Coping Guide From Painful XP

Many of us are blessed to have best friends in our lives. You know those cool people that we just click with and accumulate wonderful experiences alongside? Having a supportive BFF at your back is seriously the best thing ever.

What is the definition of a BFF, anyway? To me, this is someone you strongly relate to, can talk about absolutely anything with, would punch anyone for, and someone you will always love unconditionally.

They’re there for you in your darkest moments, and you’re there for them in theirs. Merely talking to them makes you smile and gives you comfort. They become as important to us as family members. Soul friends, as one of my best friends likes to put it.

Never in a million years could you ever imagine such a strong emotional bond being broken. Just like in all the cheesy stories, the power of true friendship can overcome anything, right??

Wrong!!

Sadly, harsh reality begs to differ. We are all human beings, and all human beings create drama. Longstanding close connections you took for granted can be nuked beyond repair in the blink of an eye. It’s those feelz, man.

Human emotions are the complex and messy elements in any relationship equation. When incompatible mental health issues meet, it can be comparable to the reactions that occur when fire touches ice or lightning strikes water.

None of these elements are inherently good or bad; they just clash.

My Shiny New Gaming PC

This year is just… infinitely depressing and disappointing for so many personal and global reasons. It has been hard to hold onto happiness while my own world and the actual world seems to be continuously crashing down around me.

That’s how it is, though. Life can be brutally unfair to all of us sometimes. It’s best to just embrace that fact rather than let the struggle against the things you can’t change destroy you.

Yeah… needless to say, I needed a fun distraction from all the drama going down.

I had two trips planned this year that obviously got cancelled for coronapocalypse related reasons. Instead of “wisely” investing the returned monies into an uncertain future, I decided to blow it all on fancy components for a new gaming PC and build it all by myself!

There’s More to Life Than Having Sex

Triggered!! Ahem. This article has been inspired by the always awesome Kim of Later Levels and her superb post from 2019 criticizing a study that blamed video games for the reason why people aren’t having as much of that glorious sex thing. Nowadays you can blame the pandemic for that (ha!) but the root cause of my triggering remains the same in today’s coronavirus infested world.

Finding out about this “study” (I use the word loosely since it implies something professional happened. It did not.) triggered me for several reasons. Kim did a great job critiquing the reasons why the data from the study is flawed (seriously, check out her post). I’m going to concentrate on ranting about the thing that irked me the most about this whole thing: the fact that this study was even done at all.

Crazed Corona Chatter 2: Survival Mode, Disengage!

It’s good to vent! That’s one of the main reasons why I write stuff, actually. Like most of the world, I’ve been driven completely crazy by the COVID-19 crisis. All other humans in the physical world are potential virus vectors to be avoided. It’s a freaking terrifying time as we watch death counts soar and hunker down helplessly as all our freedoms are taken away for the greater good of humanity.

And so, this “Crazed Corona Chatter” series of articles will be my way to just unload about it when I feel I need to. Sadly, I don’t think this depressing chaos will go away anytime soon.

Feel free to vent in the comments section too. I’m listening and here for ya! We got this.

I have successfully dodged all information from the world’s frenzied media outlets for the past week. I just… can’t anymore. Being constantly assaulted with depressing news is absolutely destroying my mental health. I feel like I’ve lost all my life skillz progress and wore out all the new coping tools my therapist gave me after our last session in February. I REFUSE to devolve into that miserable, angry, heartbroken, self-destructive mess I was again, dammit!

Sometimes detaching from the sources of your pain is the only thing you can do to save yourself.

Blood Is Still Needed in the Coronapocalypse Era

STAY HOME is the good message being spread around the globe. Staying home saves lives, and you should most definitely do that, but if you’re eligible and able to donate blood, GO TO THE BLOOD DONOR CLINIC to save even more lives.

The need for blood doesn’t go away when pandemics strike. People canceling their blood donation appointments because they fear contracting the virus, or have contracted the virus, is another serious threat to healthcare systems across the globe right now. If you can, please, just do it!!

I did today, and yes, that is my arm in the article’s header image. Bandage of honor, baby! That tattoo has some special meanings and whatnot too, but that’s another story for another post, kids. Life is a big endless learning process, let me tell you.

Ugh! What the hell happened to the world?? Why is this little package of evil RNA replicating itself exponentially, spreading like wildfire, and wreaking havoc on human existence as we all knew it? It seems like years ago there was just a bunch of memes and half concern over some “flu virus in China”.
