Seriously Geeky Sundays: Family

Oh, crap… It’s Mother’s Day here in Canada. I should probably contact my mom in some form after this, eh? I’m not even sure what year it is anymore so I’m sure she’ll understand. Plus I can pull the corona card to avoid a rushed visit. Ha! But yeah, family.

Family is a bit of a, um, “complex concept” for me. I’ll spare the drama details, but I only have my parents and my two cats to call family. Just because you’re related to people by blood doesn’t mean you have to refer to them as family. Sometimes you just gotta let go of the toxic people who don’t really want you in their lives. Besides, true friends who become like family are infinitely more awesome than forced blood ties. I’m grateful to have quite a few of those cool true friends, both online and offline. Thank you ❤

Seriously Geeky Sundays: Creativity

Be true to the creative you! That’s the best advice I can give to anyone creating content. Don’t try to smash yourself into a mould so you can follow the path to “success” some other content creator took. When all content is essentially a clone of what worked, everything looks the same and you don’t stand out much, eh? Unleashing your true creativity is the key to shining bright against dull trending backdrops.

Speaking of cool creative people, the awesome Heather over at Just Geeking By started a series of blogging prompts called Seriously Geeky Sundays. This is my response to part 4 of her multi-week event. Definitely check out Heather’s creative prompts and take part in the fun if you want! I’m absolutely loving her questions so far.

Super Happy Love Blog Award Thingy

True love heals and conquers hate and misery, which the world seems to have a lot of these days sadly. When I’m feeling at my worst, trying to help the people I care about and focusing on the positive things around me helps keep my darkness at bay. Yep. I have a lot of things going on right now that make me really freaking sad, but I have a lot of really good things going on now too.

The glass is not half full nor half empty… I shattered it and focused on living in the now. It’s just a damn glass with liquid in it, and is in no way an accurate representation of my overall optimism levels.

Anywho, the super lovely Later Levels nominated me for this lovely Super Happy Love Blog Award created by the super personable Pinkie’s Paradise. Thank you so much! More of these love and positivity things are definitely needed on the internet and I’m honored for the opportunity to partake.

Seriously Geeky Sundays: Easter and Spring

Hoppy Easter Sunday, everyone! Despite the depressing coronapocalypse situation, I hope everyone is finding some joy in chocolate and safe socially distanced togetherness today. I’ll be solo walking in the sunshine and playing Elder Scrolls Online for the rest of the day. Best Easter ever!!

A Cool Magic Key Concept

Netflix’s Locke & Key series came at me right outta left field (and may have been suggested by the same cool friend who’s been selling me on a lot of media items lately). I’ve heard of the comic series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez that this is based on, but never paid it much attention. I can now say I was missing out on a hella intriguing story concept!

It’s clear that the Locke family has hit the rock bottom of their reality when the show opens. Their father, Rendell, has been murdered and the rest of the family is understandably still quite traumatized after surviving the hostage situation that followed. In the hopes of creating a fresh start for her family, the mother, Nina, has moved her 3 kids across the country to live in Rendell’s mysterious childhood home: Keyhouse.

Wildly Obsessed With Wentworth

I wouldn’t know firsthand since I’ve never been in jail (or even konwingly broken any laws since I’m an upstanding person) but prison sounds like a really brutal place I’d never want to end up. Gangs, drugs, being caged in constant close proximity to other women with no privacy… yeah. I wouldn’t last long in that environment.

Prison dramas seem all the rage lately but I admit I haven’t been overly interested in them. At the time of this article I still haven’t seen Orange is the New Black, for example. A cool friend of mine told me I NEEDED to watch Wentworth IMMEDIATELY, and well, I’m freaking glad I listened to her!

This Australian drama is one masterpiece of an emotional roller coaster ride. It’s hard to put into words just how much this show pulled me in. I was a complete wreck (in a good way) after having pretty much binge-watched Seasons 1-7 on Netflix (the only way to see it in my part of the world).
